St Mac Dara’s completed a sensational double county title win in Abbotstown last Wednesday. The U18 hurlers had a superb victory over St David’s Artane in the Dublin C Championship following on from the school’s Under 14 team winning the Dublin C Football Championship earlier in the day.
The hurlers deserve huge credit for this victory which was earned despite losing vital players to injury in the build up to the game. They gave a superb display on the day and the victory was well deserved.
Below is a match report compiled by two students who attended the game.
St. Mac Dara’s 2-14 St. David’s Artane 3-7
Mac Dara’s have claimed the Dublin Championship in a dramatic fashion by defeating St David’s Artane.
Mac Dara’s got off to a slow start with David’s scoring the first few points. After 10 minutes Mac Dara’s finally clicked into gear with a point from Kevin Roberts and a badly needed goal from Kevin lahiff. Mac Dara’s then pushed on with scores from Alan Connolly, Conor Nolan, Dylan Ryan and Adam mc Dermot. The defence stayed strong with Shane Lawlor and Ethan Rooney doing untold amounts of hard work. As the half drew to an end the physicality of the game was apparent as Pierce Hogan and Fergal Kilbane took big hits.
An inspirational half time team talk by managers and Captain James Nugent led to the players coming out with fire in their bellies hungry for the ball. Both teams exchanged scores and Mac Dara’s began to kick on with Adam Mc Dermot scoring a crucial goal. Late goals from David’s look like there was hope but an insurance point from Michael Foley made sure it was going to be a historic day for Mac Dara’s as the long wait for hurling success was brought to an end. A great end to a great day for the college!
