Girls Rugby – updated 17th October 2011

St Mac Dara’s Girls Rugby Squad trip to Tallaght Library Rugby World Cup Seminar.

On Wednesday 12 October members of the Girls Rugby Squad accompanied by Ms V Butler and Mr S Culleton attended a Rugby World Cup Seminar in Tallaght Library along with students from Tallaght Community School and Terenure College.  There was an excellent display on the Rugby World Cup, providing details on key players to watch in the tournament as well as some of the history of the event.  Also on display were jerseys and rugby balls signed by leading players such as Ireland’s Brian O’Driscoll and New Zealand’s Jonah Lomu.

The highlight of the event was the panel discussion and question & answer session with Reggie Corrigan (former prop for Leinster and Ireland), PR Smith (author), and George Hook (Rugby Pundit, broadcaster, journalist).  A very lively discussion took place, offering insight into the Rugby World Cup so far as well as into the future of the sport.  There was also great banter between “Slow George” and “Fat Reggie” when comparing the amateur and professional eras of rugby.

After the question & answer session was completed the squad members spent some time chatting with the panel members who were also kind enough to sign journals and pose for photographs.  The Girls Rugby Squad would like to thank Reggie Corrigan and George Hook for their kindness and the staff of Tallaght Library for hosting such an engaging and entertaining event as well as inviting the students.

Training takes place for the Girls Rugby Squad every Thursday from 4.00 until 5.00.  All are welcome.  If interested please speak to Ms V Butler or to Mr S Culleton.
